Prime Minister warned Eco will not stop fuel poverty increasing

Energy Bill Revolution – backed by Npower, SSE and Eon – told David Cameron in the letter that the current energy efficiency measures “are not enough to eliminate fuel poverty or end the financial hardship”.

Fuel poverty currently affects 6 million households in the UK and using Department of Energy and Climate Change figures on rising energy costs, Energy Bill Revolution predict 9 million homes will be in fuel poverty by 2016 despite current energy efficiency programmes.

The alliance is calling for funds generated by the carbon tax revenue, estimated to be an average of £4 billion every year for the next 15 years, to be used to pay for a programme of “super-insulation” in UK homes.

Energy Bill Revolution claims this would save the average household £310 a year on their energy bill, and bring 9 out of 10 houses out of fuel poverty within 10 years, before eradicating it completely.

Ed Matthew, director of the Energy Bill Revolution, said: “There is enough carbon revenue to fund an insulation programme which is five times bigger. It could end fuel poverty and ensure all UK homes are super-insulated.”

The campaign has an open invitation to all business, organisations and charities to sign up and back their campaign.
