On the move – Rotheray to step down as ADE director; Slade appointed to GIIA

The Association for Decentralised Energy has announced that its director for the past six years, Tim Rotheray, is to step down.

The organisation’s board is still in the process of choosing a successor. Rotheray is taking up a new role that will be revealed shortly.

“Working at the ADE has been a truly wonderful experience,” said Rotheray. “We have seen the sector grow from the fringes to centre stage.

“Key issues like decarbonising heating, and power flexibility through demand response combined with onsite generation have come into their own. These are now understood as key solutions to ensure we have a cost-effective, low-carbon future.”

Ongoing ADE chair Dan McGrail added: “It has been an enormous privilege to work with Tim over the last five years, the last three of those as chair. Tim has brought enormous energy and vision to the role of director, helping to raise the profile and the standing of the association, and the industry in general.

“Having overseen the change in name, mergers with the UKDRA and ACE, and a subsequent growth in membership from 89 members in 2013 to 157 today, Tim leaves the association in great health, well regarded within government, and with a talented and committed team fit to face an exciting future.”

Meanwhile, outgoing EnergyUK chief executive Lawrence Slade is to join the Global Infrastructure Investor Association (GIIA) in the same role. Slade will start his new role at GIIA on 1 January 2020 succeeding Andrew Rose, who had previously announced he would step down at the end of the year.

GIIA describes itself as “the membership body for the world’s leading institutional investors”.

Slade said: “I’m honoured to be asked to take on this important role and build on the great progress Andy and the team have made. With billions of infrastructure investment needed around the world, I am excited by the global nature of GIIA’s mission and the scale of opportunities for the sector. I look forward to getting started and working with our members and stakeholders.”
