RWE signs UK Armed Forces Covenant

This means the energy company has made a commitment to the British armed forces in employing and supporting ex-military personnel, their spouses and partners, as well as members of the reserve forces.

Alongside this, RWE will endeavour to ensure “that no member of the armed forced community should face disadvantage, compared to any other citizen”, and said that in some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate, especially for the injured or bereaved.

Paul Massara, RWE’s country chair and the chief executive of Npower who left the company at the beginning of the week, said at the time the deal was signed: “By signing, we’ve promised to promote that we’re supportive of people from the forces community; we’ve promised to support military personnel in inclusive resourcing practices; and we’ve promised to support and accommodate the needs of serving reservists.

“We’ll promote these commitments in our current practices and we’ll look forward to developing and improving our policies even further.”

Government minister for reserves Julian Brazier said: “We are honoured that the RWE Group have publicly declared their support for our Armed Forces, recognising the core values and skills that military personnel can contribute to the energy industry.

“By upholding the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant and developing initiatives that support our personnel, veterans, and their partners, RWE companies are going the extra mile to back our personnel and the commitment they make to keeping our country safe.”
