The Scottish government has awarded EDF Energy a contract to supply Scotland’s public bodies with renewable electricity. Scottish Power and SSE, which previously shared the contract, both expressed their disappointment at the decision.
According to the Scottish Government, the contract, which accounts for 10 per cent of Scotland’s electricity, was awarded on price and flexibility . The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Scottish Power has just over 1GW of operating renewable capacity in Scotland. SSE has 2.3GW. Until its 144MW Fallago Rig is complete, EDF has just 64MW of renewable capacity in Scotland. EDF said it would match the forecast annual 2.7TWh of power for the contract unit for unit with renewable power.
