Scottish Power does deal to let windfarms use its radar station

Deals have been signed with turbine manufacturer Gamesa for its 117MW Harelaw development, with Muirhall Energy for its single 500KW turbine at Climpy, with West Coast Energy for its 9MW Blantyre scheme, plus one other scheme with the firm. Scottish Power Renewables has also effectively signed a deal with itself for the 15MW Middeton scheme, which it has acquired from RWE Npower Renewables.

The company said that fees paid by the developers to use the Kincardine station data vary by project, and did not disclose the value of the deals. However, the firm said it sought to recover some £5 million invested to build the radar station.

Clarification: This article originally stated that the radar station cost £35 million to build. Scottish Power had said “circa £5 million” and we are happy to correct this.
