Scottish utilities fined for failing roadworks reinstatement target

Scottish Water has been told to pay £38,000 and Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (part of Scottish and Southern Energy) £2,000. Openreach and Virgin Media were also fined.

The Scottish Road Works Commissioner issued the penalties as the firms had failed to meet their obligation to reopen 80% of roads on time, despite warnings.

Scottish Water said it would pass on the fine to contractors and customers would not have to pay.
