This has seen the number of blockages in its wastewater network fall by 5,000, from 40,000 to 35,000, since 2013.
Despite this, the company is warning that the problem is still costing it more than £6 million a year to tackle, and that 80 per cent of the blockages are avoidable.
To help further reduce the number of sewer blockages it has to deal with, Scottish Water is launching the next phase of its Keep the cycle running campaign, which is its biggest ever awareness campaign.
It will feature a series of television and radio adverts urging householders to dispose of kitchen and bathroom waste responsibly.
Scottish Water director of communications Chris Wallace said: “We’ve made great progress, with the help of our customers, but there is still a lot more that can be done to tackle this problem.”
“The wastewater drain which runs from your house to the public sewer is usually only about four inches wide, which is less than the diameter of a DVD.
“Scottish Water believes the best way to tackle blocked drains and sewer flooding is to work with our customers to prevent blockages that can clog up the cycle in the first place.”
