SES Water has taken further steps to minimise carbon emissions from its vehicle fleet by providing only electric or plug-in hybrid employee cars.
Employees with a company car will be provided with leased electric or plug-in hybrids when their vehicle is next replaced, as well as home-charging facilities.
The move follows a trial last year to electrify its fleet that included adding 42 charging stations at the company’s office and treatment sites.
As part of the sector-wide commitment to net zero by 2030, SES plans to change every vehicle in the coming decade to a non-fossil fuel alternative.
From April 2025, employees with a car allowance will have to move to a vehicle with a CO2 emission value below 50g/km to qualify.
Energy and carbon manager, Henrietta Stock, said: “We are committed to minimising the impact our essential operations have on the environment and our communities, which is why this scheme is such an important step for us to take and we believe we are one of the first in the industry to do this.
“Each electric car in our fleet will help save around two to three tonnes of CO2e per year as well as reducing the impact on local air quality.”
