Severn Trent has announced the opening of its £3 million laboratory in Church Wilne near Nottingham.
The microbiology testing site will employ more than 40 people to carry out will carry out more than 200,000 tests per year.
The specialised accredited laboratory will carry out testing against a number of criteria to ensure that water supplied to the company’s customers is of a “suitably high standard”.
Shaun Dowen, water regulations and public health lead at Severn Trent, said: “We’re really excited to be officially opening the new laboratories, and believe we’ve created a brilliant, modern environment for our teams to work in.
“We’ve made the labs bigger and upgraded our equipment, so we can now bring all our sampling and microbiological analysis in the East Midlands under one roof, enabling continuous improvement in the service we deliver for our customers.”
Marcus Rink, chief inspector at the Drinking Water Inspectorate, who attended the opening, added: “I welcome Severn Trent’s investment in this new facility which will provide opportunities for high quality skilled jobs and strengthens the capacity for the scientific analysis of samples that lies at the heart of consumer confidence and protection of public health.”
