Shale gas impact on global energy markets subject to MP scrutiny

The Energy and Climate Change select committee has announced an inquiry into the extent of shale gas resources worldwide and potential for a global LNG market to emerge.

The committee previously found UK shale gas reserves were “unlikely to be a game changer”. Now it is looking further afield, at whether large volumes of gas from unconventional sources abroad could drive down prices.

It is also looking into the implications for climate change objectives of using more shale gas.

The deadline for submissions of written evidence is 1 October.
