Smart meter consumer campaign left without a chairman

A new chairman has yet to be announced, but a spokesperson for Smart Energy GB said they are in the process of recruiting for the position.

McDonagh was appointed chairman of the then Central Delivery Body in June 2013 when it was set up to manage the public engagement element of the smart meter rollout, due to start next year.

Smart Energy GB’s chief executive Sacha Deshmukh said: “I would like to thank Margaret McDonagh for her contribution to Smart Energy GB as non-executive chair, and for her support in the two years that we have worked together.”

“Margaret was part of the founding team of our organisation. She has played an important role in helping us to develop our consumer engagement approach and has been a powerful advocate for the transformation that smart meters will bring to the experience of consumers.”

Earlier this month McDonagh called on the government to establish an Olympics-style coordinating body to drive forward the UK’s national smart metering programme.
