Social tenants will get help to save water

Housing associations are being offered free or discounted water-saving products to give to tenants in an initiative launched this week by the Sustainable Communities Partnership.

Bringing together water firms, the Energy Saving Trust (EST) and SaveWaterSaveMoney, the initiative will target the UK’s four million social housing tenants. It is claimed each household in the programme could save 30,000 litres of water and 750kWh of energy a year, worth up to £250.

Several housing associations in Yorkshire Water’s region are already trialling the project.

Andrew Tucker, water expert at EST, said: “Now more than ever, saving water should be considered a core business requirement to help householders suffering from high fuel bills and fuel poverty.”
