Spark announces expansion plans

Spark Energy has unveiled plans to employ 160 new staff members to mark the first anniversary of its on-site academy.

The new employees will be based across the Scottish Borders-based business’s customer service and back-office departments, including in its IT, finance, legal and compliance, HR and training teams.

Spark, a niche energy supplier for home movers, said it has delivered over 23,000 hours of training and upskilled nearly 200 employees through the academy. The company currently employs 416 permanent members of staff.

Spark’s director of people of culture, John Hawkins, who was the architect of the academy, said: “This is a fantastic milestone for the Spark Academy and the volume of training delivered is testament to its benefits for not only Spark and its customers, but the entire Borders region.”

Spark claims to be the only multi-utility provider in the UK. According to its website, it is “built around the needs of the rapidly growing lettings sector working with letting agents, social landlords and homeowners, to provide hassle-free energy & broadband and entertainment services that are live and ready for home movers”.
