Spark Energy signs up to Energy Switch Guarantee

Spark Energy has signed up to the Energy Switch Guarantee (ESG), an initiative launched in June 2016, which now covers more than 90 per cent of the market.

Chris Gauld, chief executive of Spark described the ESG as a “really valuable initiative that benefits all customers”.

He said: “We’ve been working to the aims of the guarantee for a while now and it’s great to be officially signed up.

“We’re constantly looking at ways to improve customer experience and we’ve been investing significantly in new and improved platforms to achieve this. Joining the guarantee is one more way we’re able to offer improved outcomes for our customers.”

Tina Tietjen, independent chair at the Energy Switch Guarantee, added: “With nearly 60 suppliers to choose from, the market is more competitive than ever before, and the Energy Switch Guarantee provides consumers with extra reassurance that switching supplier will be simple, speedy and safe.”

Spark, the multi-utility supplier recently announced a £1.5 million investment in digital technology to improve its customer service offering for its 400,000 customer accounts across Spark and its telco brand, Home Telecom.

The investment includes a digital only brand for pay-as-you-go customers, an updated website and the launch of a smart assistant chatbot called Ami.

Spark is also on a recruitment drive and plans to hire more than 100 people by the end of this year, which will take its workforce to 500.

Spark Energy was one of several smaller energy firms rated poorly for customer service in Citizens Advice’s latest energy star rating table.
