SSE confident of increasing profits ahead of price hikes for customers

The utility is expecting their profit levels to return to levels similar to those experienced in 2010 for the half year period, and will then increase domestic gas and electricity bills by an average of 9 per cent on October 15.

SSE is expecting its financial report, which it will publish in November, to show that all three segments of its business – networks, retail, and wholesale – have been profitable for the six month up until the end of September.

In the same period in 2011, its retail operation recorded an operating loss of almost £100m, including a loss of more than £125m in energy supply.

SSE also remains of course to provide its shareholders with a dividend increase of at least 2% more than RPI inflation.

Gregor Alexander, Finance Director of SSE, said: “Energy market conditions remain challenging, and this has an impact on providers and customers, but SSE is focused on maintaining financial discipline while working to meet the needs of customers in what are difficult economic times.”
