SSE customer numbers hold steady despite price rises

SSE said that meant average households paid £710 for gas and electricity in the nine months to December 2011 compared with £760 in the nine months to 31 December 2010.

The company’s interim management statement sugested that customers had in the main accepted its price rises of 11 per cent for electricity and 18 per cent for gas effective from September. SSE lost just 50,000 gas and electricity accounts, taking its total to 9.60 million in the UK and Ireland.

Chief executive Ian Marchant said that the company remained on course to deliver further growth in adjusted profit before tax and that large projects continued to make good progress.
