SSE’s Northern Ireland electricity supply arm, SSE Airtricity, confirmed it will freeze its standard rate household electricity prices.
This follows an announcement by the Utility Regulator that there will be no change to incumbent Power NI’s regulated electricity tariff.
Northern Ireland’s utility regulator (UREGNI) confirmed on Wednesday that the regulated electricity supplier, Power NI, will not make any change to its domestic prices.
UREGNI chief executive, Jenny Pyper said: “Given the ongoing volatility of electricity costs over the past number of years, no change to electricity prices is a welcome outcome for households, especially as we enter the winter months.
“This is in the context of increasing prices in both GB and the Republic of Ireland over the last year.
“We are also conscious of stakeholders views that stability in prices is valued and should be delivered where possible.”
SSE Airtricity’s price freeze will apply to its 160,000 existing household customers, including those on introductory discounts.
SSE Airtricity also announced it would hold its regulated gas tariffs at current levels until April 2015 for its 119,000 natural gas customers in the Greater Belfast area.
