Around a third of that capacity has been commissioned since April 2011 said SSE, with onshore wind now exceeding its conventional hydro electric capacity of 1,150 megawatts.That means onshore wind now represents about a tenth of SSE’s generation capacity.
Chief executive Ian Marchant said the firm was confident that its onshore wind capacity would “continue to grow significantly in the coming months.”
SSE currently has 30 onshore wind farms in operation with a further 48 projects at various stages of completion.
