SSE issues first consultation on future of electricity networks

Its consultation document sets out plans to adapt to changes in
electricity generation and use such as an expected increase in the
number of solar panels and electric vehicles on the system.

The energy company said the plans were to introduce smarter grids
and a better service without increasing consumer’s bills over the period
April 2015 to March 2023, in line with regulator Ofgem’s electricity
distribution price control.

Director of distribution Stuart Hogarth said: “This is an exciting
time for the industry, the way we use electricity is changing as we
adapt to a low carbon economy.”

Stakeholders have until 16 November to comment on the plans. The next phase of consultation will be launched in January 2013.
