SSE seeks transmission work go-ahead for Moray Firth windfarm

The proposed works comprises approximately 20 kilometres of
underground cable and a substation, linking to Beatrice Offshore
Windfarm (BOWL).

SSE Renewables is working in partnership with Repsol Nuevas Energias
on the BOWL development, which is to generate up to 1,000 MW.

Richard Escott, head of offshore development for SSE Renewables,
said: “We believe that harnessing the power of offshore wind will enable
the UK to generate significant amounts of low-carbon electricity from a
renewable source and therefore help meet the country’s energy security
and climate change objectives.”

A decision on the offshore wind farm is expected in early 2013.
