SSE to supply ‘traceable’ green power with new business arm

SSE has launched a new energy solutions brand which combines its business services and will supply customers with power produced directly from its own generation assets.

As part of its offering, SSE Energy Solutions customers will be given Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificates and they will be able to trace where the power has originated.

The company says the combined brand will allow it to market its services as a “one-stop shop” for businesses and public sector bodies such as local authorities wanting to meet their green commitments and wider corporate social responsibility targets.

New customers on a fixed contract will be supplied with 100 per cent renewable electricity as standard from assets which include the offshore windfarms Beatrice and Greater Gabbard, onshore windfarms such as Clyde and Keadby, and hydro-electric stations such as Glendoe and Tummel Valley. SSE has 8GW of new renewable assets in development.

French climate consultancy EcoAct, an Atos company, will also independently verify the retailer’s green credentials.

As well has providing 100 per cent renewable power, services under the new solutions business will include the installation of electric vehicle (EV) hardware and service provision for fleets, buses and public hubs.

Nikki Flanders, managing director of SSE’s customer business, said: “We’re hearing loud and clear from our customers that they want to go green and so we’ve made the move to power all new fixed contracts with 100 per cent renewable electricity from our UK wind farms and hydro plants.

“We see it as our job to make traceable green energy accessible to all organisations across the UK, including the 5.6 million small and medium sized businesses. For the UK to meet its net zero targets, it’s important all businesses are able to adopt traceable renewable energy and this move makes it easy for them to do so.”
