SSEN offers sign up bonus to flexibility providers

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has announced a new incentive scheme to encourage potential flexibility providers to register their assets.

The distribution network operator is offering a £500 payment to any flexibility provider, which successfully prequalifies for its new purchasing system before the end of November and meets its eligibility criteria.

The pre-qualification process involves a short questionnaire and the submission of some basic asset information. The offer will backdated to all providers that have already registered on SSEN’s new purchasing system, which was launched on 13 July. The company said a limited number of payments is available for each of its licence areas in the north of Scotland and southern England.

Earlier this month, SSEN announced a new flexibility tender worth £6.7 million, which will run until 30 November.

Gavin Stewart, flexible solutions manager at SSEN, said: “We are committed to growing local flexibility markets to help balance our network. This incentive scheme demonstrates our commitment to encouraging new participants into the expanding flexibility market, particularly those who might otherwise not consider the possibilities and benefits that distribution flexibility markets offer.

“We want to make it easy and worthwhile for providers to take the first step. I and my team are always here to answer questions and offer support. I hope this and the incentive scheme will encourage many new participants.”
