Sutton and East Surrey Water doubles size of social tariff scheme

The company has extended the social tariff, which was trialled last year, and its aims to get 5,000 customers signed up to the scheme by March 2016 which offers a 50 per cent discount on water bills.

The pilot social tariff ran last year and signed up more than 2,500 customers, offering them a 25 per cent discount on their bills.

Sutton and East Surrey customer projects manager Nicola McCormack said: “Our Water Support Scheme provides an opportunity for the company to help some of our customers most in need of financial support.

“We would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible to apply straight away.”

The introduction of Sutton and East Surrey’s social tariff scheme follows the Labour Party’s promise to introduce a national affordability scheme, which would force all water companies to sign up to, should it win May’s general election.
