Thames Water stake not for sale, says Macquarie

The Australian-owned group, which has a 26 per cent stake in Thames Water’s holding company, Kemble Water Holdings, has dismissed reports that it is looking to sell off its shares, following speculation in the national press.

Macquarie Group associate director, corporate communications and investor relations Steve McCool said: “There is no sale process planned and no sale process going on.”

Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 2 (MEIF2) owns the stake in Kemble Water Holdings, and is currently in its sixth year of a ten year life, with the option for this to be extended for another four years.

The speculation over Thames’ ownership followed news that Citi is planning to sell its £2 billion stake in Yorkshire Water, and Pennon’s announcement of a £100.3 million takeover of Bournemouth Water last month.
