Tidal power and interconnector agreement also signed in Paris

Alderney Renewable Energy (ARE) and its partner Transmission Capital (which has so far won the lion’s share of contracts to run the UK’s offshore wind farm transmission links) along with French grid operator RTE signed an agreement for the FABLink interconnector earlier today.

A spokesperson for ARE said National Grid had been involved in discussions and that a landing point for the UK mainland connection has been identified at Fawley, near Southampton.

ARE also signed an agreement with French industrial group DCNS to develop tidal arrays in Alderney’s waters. The channel island company said up to four gigawatts of tidal power could be exported via the link.

DCNS will be the EPC contractor with Open Hydro likely to be the turbine manufacturer.
