Tony Cocker discusses the need to Build Back Better

Tony Cocker, the chair of Affinity Water and a director of SSE, will be among the experts discussing how the sector can “build back better” on Utility Week’s latest #AskUsAnything online show.

The former Eon chief executive will be part of a panel of experts fielding reader questions from 11am tomorrow (12 June).

The discussion will focus on how the green recovery can be embedded in the government’s economic fightback and how utilities can effectively communicate their crucial role in this process.

The theory of building back better was today cited as one of three key asks from the CBI in an open letter to Boris Johnson. It pointed out the huge potential for job creation and economic stimulus in area such as energy efficiency and EV charging networks.

Tomorrow’s discussion takes place exactly a year since the government announced it would enshrine the target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 into law.

Cocker and his fellow panellists will debate what progress has been made since then and what more there is to do.

Fellow panellists include Nick Ellins, chief executive of the Energy and Utilities Skills group, and Clementine Cowton, director of external affairs at Octopus Energy.
