Turbines at Teeside offshore windfarm start electricity generation

The trio of Siemens turbines are the first of 27 at the array – located off the coast at Redcar – to complete the commissioning process and export electricity to the National Grid.

Once completed in June, the EDF Energy Renewables windfarm will have a generating capacity of 62MW.

Christian Egal, chief executive of EDF Renewables, said: “This is an important milestone for us and one that will help us maintain our commitment to deliver energy in a way that is sustainable, affordable and secure.”

The completion of the Teeside offshore windfarm will increase EDF Energy Renewables’ generating capacity from 463MW to 525MW.
