The 499kW gas engine will burn gas generated from anaerobic digestion of waste matter from the production plant.
The move will lead to a carbon reduction of 2,800 tonnes while also supplying 16 per cent of the company’s energy needs.
Currently, the waste is transported to an external service contractor for processing but once installed the biogas plant will save more than 1,000 lorry journeys each year.
