UK Power Networks (UKPN) has announced it is investing £1.4 million at its Sundridge substation near Sevenoaks in Kent.
The investment will see new equipment installed and a recently delivered 26-tonne transformer will begin operating soon.
UKPN engineers are constructing a switch house and plan to install electrical equipment which will be used to remotely control switches at the substation.
Farukh Amin, project manager at UKPN, said: “We are making this significant investment to continue providing reliable electricity supplies to households in the future.
“Customers connected to our network usually experience a very reliable power supply due to focused investment, ongoing maintenance and our expert engineering teams.
“This project represents a significant investment to meet increasing demand for electricity from existing local homes and businesses and keep supplying thousands of local residents with a safe and resilient electricity supply.”
The Sundridge investment is part of a wider £600 million investment across the South East, London and the East of England to upgrade its network.
UKPN supplies 18 million people across its area and over the eight years to 2023 plans to invest £6.6 billion in network improvements for local communities.
