UK Power Networks has awarded contracts worth £26 million for grid maintenance and upgrades over the next two years.
Carillion, Costain and Electricity Network Solutions were the successful bidders for contracts in southeast and eastern England.
They will refurbish and rebuild 33,000 and 132,000 volt power lines, increasing capacity and renewing components on steel pylons.
Nirmal Kotecha, director of capital programme at UKPN, said: “We are delighted to be working with three contractors, including two new suppliers, which bring a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience to our business. Together, we will deliver essential improvements to our electricity networks to maintain reliable power supplies.”
The contracts last until April 2015, when the new investment framework currently going through the RIIO-ED1 price review process kicks in.
