Utilita ‘disappointed’ at Ofgem investigation

Ofgem said yesterday it will be investigating pre-pay energy supplier Utilita over claims it has been wrongly blocking customers from transferring to other energy companies. But Utilita said it has been working with Ofgem for several months on issues surrounding its systems and training and felt the issues had been resolved.

Utilita managing director, Bill Bullen told Utility Week: “We have been co-operating with Ofgem for several months on this issue, and are very disappointed that they have now decided to take this action.”

“We will continue to co-operate with Ofgem on any concern that they have. Our reputation is important to us, and as a business we are proud of what we have achieved in introducing smart pre-pay into the UK market and helping to tackle fuel poverty,” he added.
