Utilities improve customer service

Although the sector remains the lowest performing on the Institute of Customer Service’s annual index, the majority of utility firms improved their scores, with water companies making the most gains.

United Utilities, which moved up seven places to third on the utility index, posted the sector’s biggest rise in customer satisfaction. It score increased by 5.7 points to 74.5 out of 100.

Energy companies dominated the top ten places for the sector but water firm Yorkshire Water came out on top, with a score of 75.7 out of 100. Northern Ireland Electricity Service (NIES) which topped the rankings last year fell to eight overall.

Consumers were asked to rate organisations on their professionalism, quality and efficiency, ease of doing business, problem-solving, timeliness, and the way complaints are handled.
