Utility Week industry appointments roundup w/c 29 July

This week has seen a number of high profile comings and goings in the utilities sector.

On Tuesday, Centrica announced its chief executive Iain Conn would be leaving next year while Claire Miles, the managing director of Centrica Home Solutions, has announced she will step down to take up a new position at Yell.

Michael Roberts meanwhile is to leave his role as chief executive of trade body Water UK after four years in the role.

Here is Utility Week’s roundup of all the key appointments from the week.

Centrica

In what has been a tumultuous week for British Gas owner Centrica with the announcement of the impending departure of Iain Conn, Peter Simon was announced as the incoming managing director of Centrica Home Solutions.

Simon, who has been with Centrica since 2016 as customer products and propositions director for UK Home – the group’s domestic energy supply and services arm, will replace Claire Miles.

Cadent

Steve Fraser, the chief operating officer for United Utilities, will take up his new role as the chief executive of Cadent on 2 September, it was confirmed.

Steve Hurrell will continue as interim CEO in the meantime before returning to his previous position of chief financial officer for the gas distribution network.

Fraser’s appointment was confirmed in June.

Energy Ombudsman  

Ombudsman Services, which is responsible for the Energy Ombudsman, has announced a revamp of its strategic leadership team.

In one of several key promotions, the former interim chief financial officer at Ombudsman Services, Simon Palmer, was announced as the group’s first managing director.

Palmer is a chartered management accountant with experience in sectors including consumer goods, retail, wholesale and IT services.

Other appointments include Jodi Hamilton, who has been made relationships director, and Amanda Manning, who is assuming the role of strategy director.

Rob Fawcett is now director of systems and data, while Joanna Jepson has been promoted to director of people and change.
