UU expects the boil water notice, issued early yesterday morning (December 11) as a precaution following an overnight technical fault on equipment at Buckton Castle WTW, to be in place for a further 48 hours. The company said the fault had been rectified but some water that had not been treated to the usual high standards had entered the local pipe network. Engineers have been flushing water through the pipe network.
Around 17,000 properties have been affected covering the areas of Stalybridge, Dukinfield, Hyde, Saddleworth, Greenfield and Ashton-Under-Lyne. UU said customers affected by the boil water notice will receive compensation automatically.
