Vattenfall in talks over new offshore operations base

Swedish energy company Vattenfall has entered into talks with Peel Ports about creating an offshore wind operations base at Great Yarmouth in Norfolk.

The investment in the town’s port would create up to 150 highly-skilled, long-term windfarm technician jobs, the company said in a statement.

The base would be used to support the operations of two new offshore wind projects which Vattenfall is aiming to build in the North Sea. Called Norfolk Vanguard and Norfolk Boreas, they each have a proposed capacity of 1.8GW.

Vattenfall and Peel Ports have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to continue negotiations on an exclusive basis.

Ruari Lean, Vattenfall project manager for Norfolk Vanguard, said: “We have found Peel Ports to be immensely helpful since we launched Norfolk Vanguard in 2016 and so we’re confident we will secure the right location at Peel Ports Great Yarmouth.

“That’s why we have cemented that relationship by agreeing an MoU”.
