Vattenfall installs last 5MW turbine at Ormonde offshore wind farm

Some six miles six off the coast of Barrow in Furness in Cumbria, the scheme will use what are currently the biggest commercially available offshore wind turbines in the world. Georg Friedrichs, head of offshore wind projects at Vattenfall said the heavier machines and stronger foundations would help give the firm “a glimpse of the technological future of offshore wind development”.

Vattenfall began offshore work at the site in May 2010 and had originally planned to complete the installation of all of the turbines in the second half of last year.
