Swedish energy company Vattenfall has submitted a planning application for a 77MW windfarm in the north of Scotland.
Clashindarroch II, which is expected to feature fourteen turbines of up to 6MW each, would be built to the north east of its 37MW sister project in Aberdeenshire. It would produce enough power to meet the needs of 55,000 households.
Project manager Alison Daugherty said: “Scotland has set its goal to reach net zero by 2045, and renewable energy projects such as this will provide the platform for the decarbonisation of homes, businesses and transport needed to reach this ambition.
“Onshore wind can make a significant contribution, and we can deploy more powerful turbines than ever before. In fact, with one rotation of the blades, the turbines proposed for Clashindarroch II could power an average home for 16 hours.”
She continued: “The team have focused on designing the best possible project that minimises impacts, is low cost and ensures that we are closely working with local communities to bring a lasting sustainable benefit.”
EDF Renewables recently announced plans to build a 110MW onshore windfarm near Newtown in Wales.
