Vattenfall to fix Kentish Flats grouting problem

Vattenfall is set to start work at the Kentish Flats offshore windfarm to reinforce the transition pieces on all 30 turbines.

The windfarm operator will be working with manufacturer Vestas and contractor SubC Partner to repair the foundations, which have suffered from grouting problems, causing slight vertical movement.

Six one-metre load-supporting brackets will have to be welded inside the transition pieces of all the turbines on the 30MW site off the Kent coast.

Vattenfall first identified the problem with the transition pieces in 2009 and the work is expected to take between four and five months to complete.
