Commissioned by the Sunday Times, the poll reveals that a majority of Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats and UKIP voters believe the Government should continue investing in the low-carbon technologies.
Overall 65% of respondents said that the Government is right to spend money encouraging wind energy technology, with 76% agreeing for tidal power.
In addition, 78% supported the financial backing of solar while 49% supported shale gas and 57% supported coal.
Liberal Democrats showed the strongest support for renewables, with 79% of backing wind power, 91% tidal and 95% solar.
Although UKIP’s support for wind power only edged a majority with 51%, the party showed strong support for solar power at 75% and tidal power at 76%.
Trade association RenewableUK welcomed the findings, claiming it was evidence that every age group and voting demographic wanted financial support for wind.
Jennifer Webber, director of external affairs for RenewableUK, said: “Poll after poll shows that voters value low carbon technologies such as wind and tidal power.
“It’s clear that for politicians, whether they’re UKIP, Conservative, Liberal Democrat or Labour that further development of our natural wind and marine resources is the way to go.”
