Aquaflow Utilities has become the latest company to apply to Ofwat for a water supply and sewerage licence, claiming to offer a “customer-focussed and creative approach” to retail water and wastewater services.
In its application, the company said it is “committed to offering eligible businesses in England and Wales exceptional levels of customer service, a highly competitive pricing strategy and a technology and efficiency driven approach to reducing their water consumption”.
Aquaflow is based in South Glamorgan, and was incorporated on 3 April 2017.
The non-household water retail market opened on 1 April, allowing more than 1.2 million businesses, charities and public sector bodies to choose their water and wastewater retailer.
The market is expected to deliver up to £200 million of benefits to the economy and water customers over the next 30 years, through improved service and value for money. So far, approximately 19,000 supply points have switched, according to the market operator.
Twenty-two retailers are currently licensed to operate in the market. These include new entrants, incumbent retail arms, and one large business customer – Greene King – which has applied to supply its own retail services.
A further four, excluding Aquaflow, have applied for licences and are awaiting the final outcome. This includes one application for a self-supply licence from Whitbread.
