Welsh Water invests £1.5m in treatment facility

As part of the investment, the company has installed a new water management system into the reservoir, in the Brecon Beacons, to improve the overall quality of the water.

This is the first time Welsh Water has used a water management system of this type, which was shipped more than 10,000 miles to the UK from Queensland, Australia.

Large stirrers, approximately 5 meters in length, circulate the water in the reservoir, improving the quality of the raw water before it enters the works for full treatment.

Due to the size and weight of the system, it had to be installed into the reservoir using a helicopter.

Roy Samuel, Welsh Water’s capital delivery manager for south east Wales, said: “We are very pleased to be using this innovative management system in the reservoir at Pontsticill.

“This investment will improve the water quality for customers in the area and ensure they continue to receive a top quality supply of drinking water long into the future.”
