Yorkshire prepares to make job cuts as part of restructure

Yorkshire Water is preparing to make redundancies as part of an organisational restructure that could impact around 100 mainly management positions, Utility Week understands.

The company confirmed a consultation was underway to determine how to improve performance but said until that is completed next month there is no set figure on how many roles will be affected.

Departments across the business, which employs c4,500 staff in total, will be examined but it is anticipated frontline workers will not be impacted, Utility Week understands.

Leadership at Yorkshire changed earlier this year when Nicola Shaw was announced as the new chief executive, replacing Liz Barber who retired after 12 years with the company.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We’re making some small changes to the way our organisation is structured to make sure that we have the right people, in the right roles to deliver our services in the best way for customers.

“As with any changes to structures, this does mean that unfortunately some roles are changing, where possible we are offering affected colleagues the opportunity to take up other roles with similar skillsets in other parts of the business. Sadly, this does mean that there will be some colleagues leaving who we will support with onward opportunities.

“The changes will improve the way we work to deliver our services in the most effective way now and in the future.”

The consultation is expected to be completed in November.
