Yorkshire reservoirs brimming over but boreholes remain low

The company said reservoirs in the region are filled to 98 per cent of capacity on average, compared to 91 per cent at the end of March.

However, it added borehole supplies were 20 per cent lower than normally expected in February, and only recovering slowly.

Ian Stevens, water resources manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “Borehole supplies always take much longer than reservoirs to replenish, so whilst we have seen them recover slightly over the last four weeks, there’s still a long way to go before these are at anything like healthy levels.”

From next month, the water company is hitting the road to give out water saving gadgets in cities and towns across the region.
