Yorkshire Water clears mammoth 7-ton fat blockage in sewer

The fat build-up was spotted in a routine camera inspection and clogged up 80 per cent of the pipe in places.

The company pleaded with customers to avoid pouring oil and fat down drains, warning that if it hadn’t discovered the blockage, sewage could have backed up into people’s properties.

Matt Thompson of Yorkshire Water said: “We’re sadly used to removing blockages caused by fat in our sewer network, but it’s very rare that we ever encounter anything on the scale of the fat mound we’ve seen today.”
