Dong and Siemens sign big wind turbine deal

The agreement means Siemens can optimise production of its big turbines, bringing economy of scale to bear on offshore wind. That “will help make offshore wind more competitive,” says Carsten Krogsgaard Thomsen, acting CEO of Dong Energy.

Dong could not confirm where the turbines would be used but it is known that the company plans to extend the Walney wind farm by up to 750MW, Burbo Bank by up to 250MW and Westermost Rough by 240MW.

For round 3, the company has a share of up to 1.2GW of the 4GW Hornsea zone .

Dong will have to pay a cancellation fee in the event of the cancellation of projects comprised by the agreement.

Clarification: This story originally stated that a deal for 600 turbines had been signed. It is definitely only 300.
