Everflow expands into telecoms

Water retailer Everflow has entered the telecoms sector by offering telephone services to its small-medium business customers.

The organisation, which underwent a management buy-out last Autumn, is running a proof-of-concept project to deliver the additional services. It previously branched out to waste management as its first foray towards being a multi-utility provider.

Founder Josh Gill previously told Utility Week his company wanted to capitalise on the impending switch off of the copper network as part of the digital transition.

The company’s six-month trial is intended to help business customers through the change from analogue networks by offering tailored telecoms alongside water supply and waste management.

Everflow built its customer base around small and medium businesses, which it identified as an overlooked customer segment in the water retail market. For the telecoms trial, it will focus on systems for sole traders and small businesses.

Following the trial, Everflow will refine its offering with an intention to fully launch in the market together with telecoms provider Gamma.

Chief operating officer Jim Garrett said: “Our proof-of-concept project, in collaboration with Gamma, reflects our commitment to providing seamless utility solutions. We are confident that this initiative will not only support businesses in their digital evolution but also strengthen our position as a leader in comprehensive multi-utility business services.”

Its partner conducted research that indicated that almost 30% of businesses have yet to begin planning for the copper network discontinuation, and another 46% are only partially prepared.

Director at Gamma Mark Lomas added: “By pooling our expertise, we are confident that our partnership will empower businesses to navigate the digital transition seamlessly and drive growth in an increasingly interconnected world.”

Everflow moved its head office lastyear and increased its staffing numbers by 50% in recent years to facilitate the growth into new areas. Its most recent company accounts, filed up to December 2022, show Everflow’s turnover grew by 47% from £79.3 million to £116.5 million as it expanded its customer base. Its EBITDA grew to £1.824 million.

Gill stepped down as chief executive in November as part of the management buy-out but remains on the board.
