Final RMR plans set out by Ofgem

The plans, which will see suppliers only able to offer four core tariffs per fuel per payment method, have been “further refined” by the regulator.

White label suppliers have been given a six month extension to their exemption period, meaning they now have until 31 December 2014 to follow the RMR proposals and either offer the same tariffs offered by their parent supplier or to obtain their own supply licence.

An exemption has also been offered to fixed term contracts which are available before 1 May 2013 and signed before 15 July 2013, although once these have ended the suppliers will still be bound by the rules regarding contract rollovers.

There have been some changes to the bundling rules “to allow certain innovative offerings where there is a clear consumer benefit”.

The consultation on the final RMR plans closes on 23 July, and the regulator expects a final decision on the implementation of the proposals to be made by mid August.

A review of RMR package will also take place no later than 2017.
