Former Decc man appointed as Office of Unconventional Gas and Oil boss

Duarte Figueira is coming back to Decc to head up OfUGO following a year-long secondment to engineering company Technip, where he was working on offshore wind issues.

Figueira was closely involved when Decc first set up the Office for Renewable Energy Deployment and also has experience working for UK Trade and Investment and held posts in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

The government confirmed it will establish OfUGO in December last year when Decc published it’s Gas Generation Strategy.

The government outlined its plans to create a single point of contact for investors and to streamline the regulatory process for the UK shale gas sector.
