Northern Powergrid boosts winter priority services campaign

The adverts are encouraging the disabled, elderly, those with young children or who are medically dependent on electricity and would benefit from extra help in a power cut to sign up to the register.

The company is already running a four-month radio campaign, and hopes the combination of increased activity and the recent weather will “spur people to take action”.

It hopes the campaign will reach out to different groups of customers who may benefit from extra support and link them directly to northernpowergrid.com where they can sign-up themselves, friends, family or neighbours and find out more about the different ways to report a power cut.

Northern Powergrid’s head of customer and stakeholder engagement Siobhan Barton said: “With winter comes the increased risk of severe weather that can cause damage to our power network, so we’re encouraging local people to take a moment to think about how a power cut might affect them, a family member, friend or neighbour who may be more vulnerable.”

Customers on the register are kept updated as a priority and in some cases are offered practical support such as being sent a Customer Support Vehicle or alternative accommodation in long power cuts.

Last week fellow DNO Electricity North West battled “difficult conditions” to reconnect 18,000 properties following storms across its region.
